Back in 2015 we were looking for a good burger and we couldn’t find one. We found out most burger places use the same stuff: buns from the same bakery, beef from the same butcher, ingredients from all the same places, and the burgers ended up tasting the same. We wanted to change that.

We wanted to make more home-style burgers. We bake our own bread, make our own sauces in-house, shape the patties by hand, and get everything fresh every day from local vendors and support local people and local businesses.

As well as that, we wanted to bring a community together and create a community-focused business place: even down to the people who work here. We wanted to bring something different to Hawthorn. That was the basic idea of the place, and now we’ve added the bar and the shisha as well to bring it all together – and that’s how the Resistance came to be.
